Papers of Louis J. Halle, 1979-1994.

The papers consist chiefly of correspondence between Halle and Herbert S. Bailey, Jr., former Director of the Princeton University Press, as well as copies of each other's poetry, observations, essays, and newsclippings. Scholarly and philosophical questions of mutual interest are the chief subjects of the correspondence. Halle's works are discussed constantly and both men offer constructive criticism of each other's output. Topics include Frank Chapman's Handbook of Birds of Eastern North America, various publications and republications, reminiscence of Sir Harold Mitchell, academia, the Gulf War, religion and Bailey's acceptance of Christianity, "political correctness," space colonization and overpopulation, and President Clinton's foreign policy. The collection also contains the manuscript "Where am I now, O Lord?" by Bailey.
